Managing Investment Risk: Investment Decisions Shouldn’t Be Taken Lightly

In recent years, a growing number of family offices are emerging as direct competitors to the crowded private equity space. These family offices are increasingly competing against core middle-market private equity firms for assets of considerable size.

As family offices seek to compete directly, they are increasingly finding several keys to success: (1) the absolute necessity to understand the risks and target industries; (2) the ability to communicate on a partnership approach; (3) finding a unique niche within a targeted class as opposed to the generalist private equity firms; and (4) the importance of finding and working alongside outside, third party advisory firms to assist them in getting the transaction across the finish line in an efficient manner.

During the member briefing we will discuss how family offices are increasing their sophistication in terms of due diligence. In particular, family offices are beginning to devote time and resources to implementing or procuring Transactional Risk Solutions as well as perform insurance and risk management due diligence, similar to the traditional private equity community.
