The Elections and the Markets – What Can Investors Expect?
Speaker: Stephen Kolano, Director, Quantitative Research and Analytics, BNY Mellon Wealth Management
The U.S. elections historically have impacted investor sentiment and the market’s reaction. Given the strength of the equity markets since the 2008 financial crisis, improvements in the health of the U.S. economy, and signals from Fed Chair Janet Yellen for potential interest rate increases, uncertainty remains. We’ll discuss the issues, market sentiment, and what we think investors may want to watch.

Stephen Kolano, Director, Quantitative Research and Analytics, BNY Mellon Wealth Management
Stephen is head of Head of Quantitative Research and Analytics within BNY Mellon Investment Management. In his role, Steve provides oversight and guidance for the Family Office segment asset allocation. He also plays an important role in solution development for our individual high net worth clients.
Prior to joining the Investment Strategy and Solutions team, Stephen held various roles at The Boston Company Asset Management over the course of almost 8 years with the firm including global equity trader, equity analyst on the Opportunistic Value team with coverage responsibilities for Technology (Ex-Software) and Industrials, client service, and business planning where he supported strategic planning initiatives of the Executive Team at The Boston Company. Prior to joining The Boston Company in 2002, Stephen was a junior block trader for JP Morgan Chase where he traded European equities and ADR's.
Stephen holds a degree in economics from Wesleyan University, a masters degree in Finance from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Stephen is a member of the Boston Economic Club, Boston Security Analysts Society as well as the CFA Institute.
Sandra Ditore, Senior Business Development Manager
Sandra Ditore, Senior Business Development Manager for Family Office Exchange (FOX) which is a leading provider of research, advice and education to families of exceptional wealth. FOX serves more than 350 ultra-wealthy families and 150 multi-family offices and advisory firms across 20 countries. In her role, Ms. Ditore is responsible for identifying prospective family and advisor members, assessing their needs and priorities, and ensuring they have a deep understanding of the benefits of FOX membership. In addition to new member acquisitions, Ms. Ditore is responsible for identifying and securing sponsorship for FOX forums and educational workshops.
Ms. Ditore has more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing. Before joining FOX in 2002, Ms. Ditore was a senior account manager for a Chicago-based healthcare communications firm, where she developed marketing strategies for global pharmaceutical brands. Prior to this, she held research and marketing positions at several Wall Street investment banking firms, including Drexel Burnham Lambert, Dean Witter Reynolds, and Dillon Read & Co.
Ms. Ditore is on the Executive Leadership Team for the Family Firm Institute (FFI) Midwest Chapter. Her involvement includes the development of educational programming for Midwest members.
Ruth Easterling is Managing Director, Member Services
Ruth Easterling is Managing Director, Member Services, for Family Office Exchange (FOX). In her role, she provides relationship management for family and advisor members by aligning FOX services with the unique needs of each member. Ms. Easterling also co-moderates the Private Family Trust Company Network and works with the team at FOX to develop relevant programming and insight to the Network.
Prior to her current responsibilities, Ms. Easterling led all of the firm’s member services activities, and oversaw the delivery of conferences, educational forums, webinars, website resources and member communications annually. She has overseen marketing and drove the redesign and brand initiative that differentiates FOX today.
Under Ms. Easterling’s direction, FOX has integrated member feedback processes through satisfaction surveys and advisory boards to guide the development of new programs and services. She played a lead role in the design and delivery of the first comprehensive program for Wealth Owners, known as the FOX Learning Academy.
Prior to joining FOX, Ms. Easterling worked with the professional services firm Smith, Bucklin & Associates, which provides association management and consulting services to more than 180 associations. She served as executive director to professional associations ranging in size from 300 to 4,000 members. In this capacity, Ms. Easterling re-engineered membership structures and planning processes to better enable organizations to maximize their potential through efficient governance structures and member participation. In addition to client service, Ms. Easterling often consulted with international and national organizations on strategic planning and governance design
