Investing in Secondary Alternatives - Where Are We in the Cycle?
Speakers: Adam Graev, Managing Director, DB Private Equity and Joshua Glaser, Global Head of Private Equity for the Global Client Group, Deutsche Bank
Investors have been successfully investing in secondary private equity funds over the last few years, capitalizing on increasing supply driven by multiple factors. We will discuss our views on this topic as well as new applications for this strategy.

Adam Graev, Managing Director, Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management
Based in New York, Adam is responsible for the secondary private equity businesses in the Americas and leads the implementation and management of secondary transactions. Adam joined Deutsche Bank in 2007 to help build the secondary business in the Americas. Earlier in his career, Adam lead direct private equity investments in venture, growth equity and buyouts at Lehman Brothers Private Equity and Chatterjee Group, an affiliate of Soros Fund Management. Adam began his career as a financial analyst in technology investment banking at Cowen & Co. Adam received his BA from Colgate University.
Joshua Glaser, Global Head of Private Equity for the Global Client Group, Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management
Based in New York, Joshua joined Deutsche Bank in 2013 and serves as the Global Head of Private Equity for the Global Client Group.
Prior to joining, he served for over seven years as the Director of Investor Relations for Paul Capital Partners, a firm focused on secondary private equity investing and managing approximately US$7 billion in commitments. Previously, he served as a Director at Forum Capital Partners, a boutique placement agent in New York. Earlier in his career, he held positions within the private equity group of CIBC Oppenheimer, and its predecessor, Oppenheimer & Co., Inc.
Ruth Easterling, Managing Director, Member Services
Ruth Easterling is Managing Director, Member Services, for Family Office Exchange. In her role, Ms. Easterling leads all of the firm’s member services activities, and manages the teamS who deliver conferences, educational forums, webinars, website resources and member communications annually. She has overseen marketing and drove the redesign and brand initiative that differentiates FOX today.
In her current Role, Ms. Easterling has expanded the educational programs and services available to FOX members. FOX now offers four industry forums, comprehensive webinars featuring timely topics of the industry and a robust library of webianr replays. Programming addresses the many facets of wealth management, from family dynamics to the most sophisticated strategies in investment planning.
Under Ms. Easterling’s direction, FOX has integrated member feedback processes through satisfaction surveys and advisory boards to guide the development of new programs and services. She played a lead role in the design and delivery of the first comprehensive program for Wealth Owners, know as the FOX Learning Academy.
Prior to joining FOX, Ms. Easterling worked with the professional services firm Smith, Bucklin & Associates, which provides association management and consulting services to more than 180 associations. She served as executive director to professional associations ranging in size from 300 to 4,000 members. In this capacity, Ms. Easterling re-engineered membership structures and planning processes to better enable organizations to maximize their potential through efficient governance structures and member participation. In addition to client service, Ms. Easterling often consulted with international and national organizations on strategic planning and governance design.
Jo Wellman, Senior Relationship Manager
Jo Wellman is a relationship manager for Family Office Exchange. She is part of the family office team that works to increase membership and provide member services.
When Ms. Wellman joined FOX in 2001, she brought with her 10 years of marketing and client relationship management experience. She was the co-owner and manager of Wellman Equipment Inc., her family’s business, and she has worked for Capstone Financial Advisors and West Suburban Hospital. In addition, she has 15 years of experience teaching business education courses at the high school and community college levels.
