Ken Kaye earned his A.B. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. He trained in family therapy at the Family Institute of Chicago, and had a general practice as a clinical psychologist before beginning his specialty in family business dynamics in 1986. Kaye has published dozens of articles and books for professional advisers as well as family business members about resolving the disputes, rifts, and tension between generations that threaten to hobble their enterprises. The books most descriptive of his work with family firms are "Workplace Wars and How to End Them" (1994) and "The Dynamics of Family Business" (2005).
Our job is to help restore and maintain long term healthy relationships among family members, whether working in the business or not--as well as between the family and key executives and trustees. Legal and financial matters are the province of other advisers. Our expertise is in turning interpersonal conflicts into healthier, productive teamwork. Following the dictum "trust, but verify," we coach our clients that developing human capital is a dual learning process between leaders and successors.
Dr. Kaye works exclusively with family enterprises, of all sizes. Approximately half his time is with family offices or family foundations. Thanks to his longtime association with FOX, Ken Kaye has nearly 20 years' experience resolving conflicts among owners of family financial offices. In most of the family financial offices with whom we have worked, sustaining their legacy of philanthropy has been critical for engaging the next generation. This has led to a special interest in advising family foundations on their board development and transitions.
