Position Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer is the leader of the financial management/reporting, treasury, risk and tax functions of the firm.
Strategy, Planning & Management:
- Acts as Chief Financial Officer and strategic business partner to executive and senior management team.
- Assess and evaluates the financial performance of the organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.
- Monitors and directs the implementation of strategic business plans.
- Develops financial and tax strategies.
- Manages the capital request and budgeting processes.
- Develops performance measures and monitoring systems that supports the company’s strategic direction.
- Creates and establishes yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.
- Participates in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models.
- Implements policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by the executive and senior management teams.
- Depending on the type of experience the candidate has, may also co-chair the Finance Executive Council.
Financial Analysis, Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly profit and loss by division, forecast versus budget by division and weekly cash flow by division. Work with the COO in quantifying multi-year strategic plans.
- Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations.
- Identify, develop, and execute analysis of business initiatives, product and launches and/or new service offerings.
- Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget.
- Participate in various conference calls and meetings with lenders, vendors and executive and senior management teams.
- Supervise the accounting to ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases and financial software. Provide regular maintenance and back-up of all accounting systems and supervise company financial staff.
- Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, compliance and finance procedures.
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for federal funders, foundations, investors and company’s advisors. • Oversee preparation and timely filing of all local, state and federal tax returns. • Work with Human Capital function to ensure appropriate legal compliance.
- Oversee the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; manage preparation and support of all external audits.
- Utilize forward looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization’s plans and operating budgets.
Operational:
- Manage daily transaction processing, including invoice review and approval, accounts payable disbursement processing, and oversight of transaction record-keeping.
- Manage banking activity.
- Manage company-issued credit card activity.
- Resolving invoicing, collections and other transactional issues as needed
- Updating the firm’s customer relationship management system with membership and consulting payment information • Oversight and processing payroll in collaboration with the Human Capital function
- Preparation and issuance of a wide range of financial and operational reports, account reconciliations, P&L reports for senior management team
- Working with the firm’s outside accounting firm, prepare quarterly tax estimates for the owners
- Preparation of year end reports, and design, development and preparation of various standard and ad hoc reports
- On a regular basis, perform P&L and cash flow forecasts to share with the Senior Management team
- Calculate Quarterly commission payouts for sales team
- Assist in the maintenance of/revisions to incentive plans for the sales team • Manage W-9 reporting for outside contractors
- Administer the International Membership pool assuring that renewals and collections are current
- Manage, train, and develop the Staff Accountant
- Act as the liaison between the firm with the outside accounting firm. Manage the year-end compilation assignment and provide support for tax returns
- Play a leadership role in the annual membership price increase discussions with Senior Management

Education and Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. CPA designation.
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience and current experience in the top finance executive role.
- Experience working with privately held firms preferably in a professional services environment (law firm, consulting firm, etc.); ideal candidate will have experience working with family offices.
- Experience with global or international clients/billing and basic translation accounting.
- Some public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in deferred revenue liability accounting and possess the ability to explain differences between internal-type financial results and GAAP.
- Working knowledge of multi-state revenue allocation.
- Hands-on and thorough experience with QuickBooks products.
- Background with reporting systems. Experience with Power BI is a plus!
- Experience in HRIS/payroll systems, preferably Namely.
- Strong Excel and MS Office Suite skills including CRM, preferably Office 365 CRM.
