Overview
According to Socialnomics, more than 58 million Americans use social networking sites several times per day. With this in mind, social media has created a new sense of reality—a reality that its benefits have outweighed the risks. Liability risks involved with the use of social media include defamation, invasion of privacy, and negligence. Individuals fail to realize the greater audience, which allows users to give out unintended disclosures. It’s important for individuals to be aware of the solutions to minimize the evolving dangers of social media.
Social media continues to advance at a faster rate than society can keep up, so the sense of privacy will continue to change. Although there are benefits and opportunity, risk is always a factor. Individuals need to be able to take advantage of the benefits, but to do so they must also be aware of the risks.
